Tenuta San Guido is the first and only company to which a Controlled Designation of Origin has been reserved: the DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia .

The estate takes its name from San Guido della Gherardesca, who lived in the 13th century and predecessor of Count Giuseppe della Gherardesca, who founded the estate in the early 1900s.
It extends for 13 kilometers in Tuscany along the Etruscan Coast , between Livorno and Grosseto, in the splendid landscape of Bolgheri that Giosué Carducci made famous in his poems. The verses of his "Davanti a San Guido" describe "The cypresses that in Bólgheri tall and straightforward / van from San Guido in double row", that is the famous Viale dei Cipressi in front of which is the Sassicaia vineyard, synonymous with the company itself and cradle of what is an icon and a legend of wine worldwide.

In the wake of the success obtained by the first Sassicaia wine, Tenuta San Guido has created over the years two further red wines, IGT Toscana, which are highly appreciated such as Guidalberto and Le Difese :
Guidalberto is a blend obtained from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes fermented in steel vats at a controlled temperature of 30-31 ° C. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, and to a lesser extent American, then rests in the bottle for a further 3 months. Nicolò Incisa dedicates this wine to the ancestor Giudalberto della Gherardesca and explaining the origins of the name explains the choice of creating the new wine: “... the desire to try our hand with a grape we have never used, Merlot, the desire to offer to the consumer a product that can be appreciated younger and finally the opportunity to be able to further select the grapes to be used for Sassicaia ".
Le Difese, on the other hand, is an IGT produced by the Tenuta only since 2003, obtained with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese grapes fermented at a controlled temperature of 30-31 ° C. The refinement process of the wine is 12 months, also here, in French and American oak barrels and 3 months in bottle.

Tenuta San Guido does not deny itself and with its 90 hectares of land it remains the symbol of Tuscan, if not Italian, wine production.
